Crete · Sprinter 144
Aleppo floor plan
Crete is an Aleppo-based Sprinter 144 camper van conversion built by 2Pines Upfitters in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan for a couple who wanted one van that handles all four seasons and any terrain. It runs a 500Ah heated lithium battery bank with a Victron 3000W inverter, 400W of solar, and a Nations and Wake Speed auxiliary alternator kit. Heat and hot water come from a Rixens hydronic system with an engine preheat loop. A winch bumper, rock sliders, and a wet bath round it out: as much at home on a January trailhead as a July lakeshore.
The Story
This one was built for a couple who wanted to get further off the pavement and stay out longer once they got there. The brief was simple to say and hard to build: a van that works in all four seasons, holds its own on rough terrain, and still feels like a calm, comfortable place to land at the end of the day.
Like every 2Pines build, Crete started in Fusion 360. The full layout and every cabinet was modelled before we cut a single piece of wood, because a systems package like this leaves no room for guesswork. A 500Ah heated lithium bank, a Victron 3000W inverter with a Cerbo GX touchscreen, 400W of solar, and a Nations and Wake Speed auxiliary alternator kit keep the power up no matter how long they stay out. Heat and hot water come from a Rixens hydronic system with an engine preheat loop that captures waste heat while driving. Free heat is good heat.
Outside is where Crete shows its teeth. A Backland Expedition G.O.A.T. bumper with a Warn winch, Apex rock sliders, an Eagle roof rack, and Baja driving lights handle the rough days, while the Fiamma awning, exterior shower, and our own 2Pines Meson utility walls handle camp life. It is a working van and a living room, and it doesn't compromise on either.
