Snyder · Transit Trail 148
Full custom
Snyder is a full custom Ford Transit Trail 148 Extended camper van conversion built by 2Pines Upfitters in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan for a couple who plan their trips around mountain biking. The layout gives them a real gear garage, separate zones for cooking, lounging, and sleeping, and a queen bed with a custom natural mattress waiting at the end of a long ride. Power comes from a 500Ah heated lithium battery bank, a 3000W inverter with Victron Cerbo GX monitoring, 400W of solar, and a Nations and Wake Speed auxiliary alternator kit, with Starlink keeping them connected wherever the trail ends.
The Story
Snyder was built for a couple who wanted to chase singletrack down whatever back road leads to it. Their brief came down to three things: enough garage storage to haul the bikes and everything that travels with them, a comfortable place to kick back after a long day on the trail, and a smooth ride home. The Transit Trail platform gave us a spacious shell to work with, so we laid it out as distinct zones for cooking, lounging, and sleeping without cutting into the gear storage that made the whole project make sense.
The systems package is built to stay out as long as they want to. A 500Ah heated lithium battery bank feeds a 3000W inverter, with a Victron Cerbo GX touchscreen so they can see exactly what the system is doing at a glance. Charging comes three ways: 400W of solar on the roof, a Nations and Wake Speed auxiliary alternator kit that charges hard while driving, and 30A SmartPlug shore power for nights with a pedestal. An Espar air heater and an Isotemp hydronic hot water system handle the cold mornings, 12V air conditioning and a Maxxair 7500K Deluxe fan handle the hot afternoons, and Starlink keeps the forecast (and the group chat) within reach.
Inside, the finish work earns its keep. Custom butcher block countertops and additional tables give them room to cook and spread out, the queen bed with a custom natural mattress gives them a reason to sleep in, and bug screens with privacy shades keep the van comfortable with the doors open. Outside, a Fiamma awning, 360 degree camp lighting, an exterior shower, a Radio Vans gear tray, and our own 2Pines Meson utility walls turn the parking spot into the campsite. Muddy bikes go in the garage, muddy riders rinse off at the back door, and the living space stays clean.
